The Queen’s Gambit avoids so many of the tired tropes that we’ve grown to expect from stories with female protagonists. What’s more, this show does something that’s remarkably rare and truly radical in 2020: namely, it chooses friendship over love.

This Netflix series blew my mind! My wife and I kept pausing it to gush about how fucking good it was! How excellent the writing and characterization was! How beautiful the set design was! The costumes! The acting! My God, it’s just a splendid work of art. We really do live in the Golden Age of Television! This show makes the best television from our youth seem utterly stupid by comparison.
